Coconuts and Futbol (World Cup 2014)

Today I’m going to do a bit of reminiscing. In 2014 upon graduating College, I was given the amazing opportunity to work at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil for a contract position. The company I went with is an authorized ticket reseller for the World Cup and Olympics. They are able to sell travel and ticket services. I assisted them with the planning of logistics for accommodations and transportations. I played only a small role in the company that I worked for at the time, but it was an experience I will forever be thankful for nonetheless. I was able to gain much needed experience in events on the international level, and to enjoy a new country and culture. I also enjoyed one too many coconuts on my walks to the office.

I worked hard and played harder in Rio de Janeiro for an entire month in Brazil. To this day it is one of the most memorable experiences I have. Rio de Janeiro is a city full of life and plenty of partying. People in Brazil definitely know how to have a good time.

Being near the ocean everyday and getting to enjoy the World’s greatest sport (my opinion), Brazil left me with good vibes.

My journey in Rio lasted the entirety of June 2014. During that time I learned how to drink plenty of Caipirinha’s, a brazilian alcoholic beverage made with Cacacha, a rum made from sugarcane juice.

I enjoyed the more than occasional Acai, which is a puree of aรงaรญ juice, ice, sugar, and loads of guarana syrup. So delicious and full of antioxidants but an overload on the sugar.

I played futsol and was horrible at it but had a blast anyways.

I saw the beautiful history of Rio de Janeiro, I worked with amazing people, and I got to see the biggest sporting event in the World.

I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Spain vs. Chile match during my time working in Brazil. Let’s just say I was more than a little disappointed in Spain’s performance, but I still had a fantastic time!

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a must visit. You will not only have a fantastic time exploring the city, but you will meet amazing people, learn the real meaning of a party, and experience delicious foods.

Be sure to follow along and I will post more about my favorite things in Rio! :)
